But say a prayer
I'm pretty upset over my little neighbor Christian. The poor thing is going to be 10 months old on Saturday and only weighs 14lbs. The mother says she feeds him bottle after bottle but I can't believe it. It's been a long time since Amber was that young so I don't know what he should be eating but I would think it should be more than formula at this point. I wonder is she gives him rice cereal at night or maybe in the morning?
Yesterday I was holding him and I heard his tummy growl (around noon or so). I went over to his mom's* and got him a bottle. As I was feeding him he fell asleep. He probably only ate a little over an ounce of formula. I tried to wake him up but he was out! He slept for a couple of hours and when he woke up Amber tried to feed him again and he kept falling back to sleep. I think they brought him home around 4:00 and he never did eat anything else.
I really think this poor little thing is so malnurished that he has no energy to even drink his bottle. I wish I could take Christian for at least a week so I could feed him and slather him with attention. Unfortunately, this is why I had my tubes tied because I don't have the time to devote to a child. It all seems so unfair to this little boy that didn't ask to be brought into this world.
*When I walked into their house the living room appeared to be neat and picked up but as I walked into the kitchen I noticed both sinks were full of dirty dishes sitting in dirty water that had water logged cereal floating in it. Her cigarette ashtray was completely full of nasty butts. Her other son (2yrs old) was pulling the Christmas tree light plugs out of the socket and the mother wasn't saying anything about it. So I did. As she was making the bottle, the son jumps up on the kitchen table which is only 3 feet away and is dancing around on the table. It takes the mom minutes before she takes him off the table. It's like the woman is oblivious that she even has children.

at 12/13/2006 9:47:01 AM- It's been awhile since my kids were that little, but it seems to me that I was feeding them baby food by the time they were 10 months old. Maybe she needs to start him on some bananas, etc. and work up to the vegetables. The mother sounds like she either overwhelmed or just doesn't care.

I know the situation is very upsetting. If it makes you feel any better: Harper is 19 months old, and JUST hit the 20 pound mark. She's still nursing (a bit), and she eats like a horse, yet she's quite runty.
